A Shared Transfer from Geneva Airport to Flaine

Before the outbound journey from Geneva Airport (GVA) to Flaine begins, you might have to wait for more passengers to arrive on different flights, but that might not be enough people to fill the vehicle.
It is quite common, particularly in the low season for the minibus to depart Geneva Airport with only 4 or 5 passengers.
Once you are on your way, there should be no stops until you arrive in the Grand Massif, where passengers might be dropped off before you in other Grand Massif resorts, such as Les Carroz.

This tends to happen more when demand is low. Each drop-off causes a small delay, and if you are the last person to be dropped off at your accommodation in Flaine, there might be a delay of 15-20 minutes before you reach Flaine.

However, in the high season, there is a reasonable probability that all your fellow passengers will be traveling to Flaine. In this case, the driver will not stop along the way, but there still might be a few minutes delay, with passengers being dropped-off in Flaine before you. Also, you might get lucky, and be the first to be dropped off.

The Journey from Flaine to Geneva Airport

The transfer company will always notify you of the pick-up time from your accommodation or other agreed pick-up location in the resort.

Be in that place at the appointed time. If you are not there, the driver will not wait, as to do so, might compromise the other passengers. No-one wants to risk missing their flight, because someone else is not at their agreed pick-up point on-time.

As soon as all passengers from Flaine are picked-up, the journey to Geneva Airport begins. However, it is possible that, along the way, the driver might stop in other Grand Massif resorts to pick-up more passengers, particularly in Les Carroz.

If you travel during peak season, there is a reasonable possibility that all the seats in the minibus will be occupied when leaving Flaine.

Ethics of a Shared Transfer to or from Flaine

The shared transfer experience requires a bit of “give and take” and a considerate attitude from all passengers.
Do not be late. Do be helpful if required and be polite to your fellow passengers.
The companies that provide shared transfers are very experienced.
Listen to what their driver might have to say and enjoy the ride!

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Online, there are resources that allow the VTC to check that flights are departing on time. It is likely that your VTC will have as much information as you about any delays. However, on the booking confirmation form, you will be provided with their mobile number, so you can call for reassurance. If the VTC is not able to transport you in a later vehicle departure, by the time your flight lands, it is likely that the VTC will have arranged for your transportation with another VTC, for the same price that you have paid already. Check your mobile phone for info that will usually arrive by SMS.

About Flaine

Flaine is a ski area in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps and is a part of the Grand Massif domain, which also includes Les Carroz, Morillon and Samoëns.

The largest resort in the Grand Massif domain, Flaine was designed in the 1960s when big concrete blocks of flats were still preferred by most architects. Whether you like this type of architecture or not, it does have an irrefutable advantage: Flaine is a  ski-in/ski-out resort.

Moreover, Flaine is admired by most due to its Bauhaus heritage and the outdoor Picasso, Vasarely and Dubuffet sculptures.

Flaine is formed of two parts. Flaine Forum is based around a large pedestrian square with the slopes and main gondola forming one side.

Above Flaine Forum and connected to it via two funicular-type lifts which run 24/7 is Flaine Forêt, with its own pistes and lifts.

Most accommodation in Flaine is provided in apartments, but two kilometres from Flaine there is the lovely Hameau de Flaine, a magnificent collection of Scandinavian-style wooden chalets.
