A Shared Transfer from Geneva Airport to Les Deux Alpes

Before the outbound journey from Geneva Airport (GVA) to Les Deux Alpes begins, you might have to wait for more passengers to arrive on different flights, but that might not be enough people to fill the vehicle.
It is quite common, particularly in the low season for the minibus to depart Geneva Airport with only 4 or 5 passengers.
Once you are on your way, there should be no stops until you arrive in Les Grandes Rousses, where passengers might be dropped off before you in other Grand Rousses resorts, such as Alpe d'Huez.

This tends to happen more when demand is low. Each drop-off causes a small delay, and if you are the last person to be dropped off at your accommodation in Les Deux Alpes, there might be a delay of 15-20 minutes before you reach Les Deux Alpes.

However, in the high season, there is a reasonable probability that all your fellow passengers will be traveling to Les Deux Alpes. In this case, the driver will not stop along the way, but there still might be a few minutes delay, with passengers being dropped-off in Les Deux Alpes before you. Also, you might get lucky, and be the first to be dropped off.

The Journey from Les Deux Alpes to Geneva Airport

The transfer company will always notify you of the pick-up time from your accommodation or other agreed pick-up location in the resort.

Be in that place at the appointed time. If you are not there, the driver will not wait, as to do so, might compromise the other passengers. No-one wants to risk missing their flight, because someone else is not at their agreed pick-up point on-time.

As soon as all passengers from Les Deux Alpes are picked-up, the journey to Geneva Airport begins. However, it is possible that, along the way, the driver might stop in other Grand Rousses resorts to pick-up more passengers, particularly in Alpe d'Huez.

If you travel during peak season, there is a reasonable possibility that all the seats in the minibus will be occupied when leaving Les Deux Alpes.

Ethics of a Shared Transfer to or from Les Deux Alpes

The shared transfer experience requires a bit of “give and take” and a considerate attitude from all passengers.
Do not be late. Do be helpful if required and be polite to your fellow passengers.
The companies that provide shared transfers are very experienced.
Listen to what their driver might have to say and enjoy the ride!

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Online, there are resources that allow the VTC to check that flights are departing on time. It is likely that your VTC will have as much information as you about any delays. However, on the booking confirmation form, you will be provided with their mobile number, so you can call for reassurance. If the VTC is not able to transport you in a later vehicle departure, by the time your flight lands, it is likely that the VTC will have arranged for your transportation with another VTC, for the same price that you have paid already. Check your mobile phone for info that will usually arrive by SMS.

About Les Deux Alpes

Les Deux Alpes (also known as Les 2 Alpes or Les 2 Alpes 3600) is a ski resort in the French Isère département.

The village is situated at an altitude of 1,650 m (5,413 ft), but there are lifts which will take you all the way to 3,600 m (11,811 ft).

The second oldest ski resort in France, Les Deux Alpes has the longest, normally open full on-piste vertical available in the world.

Les Deux Alpes was built in 1946, on the former high pastures of Venosc and Mont de Lans, two parish villages in the Isère, where the northern and southern Alps meet.

The villages are connected on the 1650 m high pass to form Les Deux Alpes. The station stretches 2 km across a plateau from which all slopes and lifts lead.

In the heart of the Oisans region, Les Deux Alpes is flanked by the Oisans massif to the west and the Ecrins national park to the east. Discover a fascinating world of peaks and summits, rock and ice.

Skiing in Les Deux Alpes

Les Deux Alpes has the largest skiable glacier in Europe and it hosts summer and autumn camps on its glacier slopes for skiers and snowboarders.

Between the village (1,300 m or 5,413 ft) and the glacier (3,600 m or 11,811 ft), there are 225 km (139 mi) of groomed ski slopes, serviced by a total of 47 ski lifts.

The resort has been called "upside-down", as the lower slopes are steeper and more challenging than the higher pistes, which include the wide and gentle glacier runs.

Les Deux Alpes is popular for its guaranteed snow cover and its gentle long runs found at the top of the mountain, which are great for beginners.

The unusual slopes distribution of the resort makes it very valuable to beginners, who, unlike in other ski areas, get to cover much more terrain and see more breathtaking views.

Les Deux Alpes also takes pride in one of the largest and most loved snowparks in Europe, with a halfpipe, multiple kickers, two boardercross courses and many grinding rails.

The lift system in Les Deux Alpes transports around 66,000 people per hour, and it can get very busy during peak times. However, the glacier is worth visiting, as it provides year-round skiing.
